Once you have booked your hand surgery, you will receive a pre-operative appointment, which is typically two weeks before your surgery. During this appointment, you will be given instructions for your surgery, as well as any medical request forms for necessary blood work or related medical tests. Dr. Fazilat will also take any pre-operative photos and review your planned procedure(s), so you can ask any final questions. Our office will contact you by phone or by email to review your instructions and your health history. After your pre-operative appointment, if you have any questions regarding your instructions, you can contact our offices in Mountain View and Morgan Hill, CA by phone or email at any time. Typically, hand surgery is performed as an out-patient procedure under general anesthesia with a board certified anesthesiologist; surgical times vary, depending on your particular case and procedure.

Recovering From Hand Surgery at SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery

After hand surgery, it is typical for our patients to feel mild to severe pain because hands are very sensitive parts of your body. The length of time for your hand to be immobilized depends on the extent of your surgery and how quickly you heal.

Soreness and pain usually pass in 7 to 10 days, with many patients returning to work within 1 week, though strenuous activity should be avoided for up to 4 weeks. The patient should also have an adult stay with them for 24 hours following the surgery to monitor their recovery.

To enhance your recovery, Dr. Fazilat may recommend rehabilitation therapy (physical and/or occupational) under the guidance of a trained hand therapist.

Dr. Fazilat will schedule a follow-up post-recovery office visit to discuss your progress.
