A toned, flat tummy can be achieved with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) by Dr. Shahin Fazilat at SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery. We focus on the reduction of excess fat, tightening of abdominal muscles, and removal of loose skin. An abdominoplasty, also known as a “tummy tuck,” is a popular procedure performed by Dr. Fazilat to reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen by flattening and contouring the abdomen and waist. The best candidates for tummy tuck procedures tend to have pockets of fat or loose, sagging skin that has not responded well to diet and/or exercise, or whose abdomens have been altered due to pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or weakened stomach muscles.
Recovering From a Tummy Tuck at SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery
After a tummy tuck, our patients are encouraged to walk the evening of the surgery to prevent possible blood clots. Patients can typically return to work within 10 to 14 days, though strenuous activity should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. You should also have a responsible adult stay with you for 24 hours following the surgery to monitor recovery. Drains are removed 10 to 14 days after the procedure. Absorbable sutures and medical grade adhesive is used in all cases. Any post-operative pain, swelling, and/or sensitivity will diminish over the first few weeks. Finally, scars from tummy tuck incisions begin to fade post-operatively but can be concealed with clothing or a bikini. Dr. Fazilat will schedule a follow-up post-recovery office visit to discuss your progress.
