A toned, flat tummy can be achieved with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) by Dr. Shahin Fazilat at SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery. We focus on the reduction of excess fat, tightening of abdominal muscles, and removal of loose skin. An abdominoplasty, also known as a “tummy tuck,” is a popular procedure performed by Dr. Fazilat to reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen by flattening and contouring the abdomen and waist. The best candidates for tummy tuck procedures tend to have pockets of fat or loose, sagging skin that has not responded well to diet and/or exercise, or whose abdomens have been altered due to pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or weakened stomach muscles.

The SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery difference
Tummy tuck surgery is a common procedure that Dr. Fazilat performs in his practice in Mountain View and Morgan Hill, CA. Tummy tucks are performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia with a board certified anesthesiologist; surgical times are 2 to 3.5 hours.
During the tummy tuck procedure, excess fat and skin are removed, and the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened, resulting in a flatter abdomen and a beautiful, natural-looking shape. An abdominoplasty does leave a permanent scar just above the pubic area, but it is most often concealed by a bikini or by low-cut underwear.
Dr. Fazilat will make two incisions: one from hipbone to hipbone and the other around the navel. He will then separate your skin in from the abdominal muscles, which would then be pulled together and stitched into place for a firmer abdomen and a narrower waist. Your skin is then stretched down and over the newly tightened muscles, whereby excess skin is removed, and the navel is reattached into a natural position. Drainage tubes are placed at the incision site to collect excess blood or fluid for 10-14 days after surgery.
Many of Dr. Fazilat’s patients also have their tummy tuck surgery combined with other procedures, such as breast augmentation, breast lift, a Mommy Makeover, or laser liposuction for a more beautiful overall appearance.
Recovering from a tummy tuck at SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery
After a tummy tuck, our patients are encouraged to walk the evening of the surgery to prevent possible blood clots. Patients can typically return to work within 10 to 14 days, though strenuous activity should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. You should also have a responsible adult stay with you for 24 hours following the surgery to monitor recovery.
Drains are removed 10 to 14 days after the procedure. Absorbable sutures and medical grade adhesive is used in all cases. Any post-operative pain, swelling, and/or sensitivity will diminish over the first few weeks. Finally, scars from tummy tuck incisions begin to fade post-operatively but can be concealed with clothing or a bikini.
Dr. Fazilat will schedule a follow-up post-recovery office visit to discuss your progress.
