A brow lift or forehead lift is a popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedure performed by Dr. Shahin Fazilat to revitalize drooping or lined foreheads, restoring a more youthful appearance that helps you look less angry, sad, or tired.
The brow lift or forehead lift procedure is performed by adjusting the skin above the eyes to smooth the forehead, elevate the eyebrows, and diminish frown lines. There are two techniques used to perform this surgery: traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic).
Brow lifts or forehead lifts are most effective for patients who want to correct:
- A brow position that is too low
- Too many wrinkles (frown lines) in their forehead
- The effects of aging with lined or inelastic skin
- Remove extra skin above and around the eyebrows
Our approach to brow lifts / forehead lifts
During your initial brow lift or forehead lift consultation with Dr. Fazilat, he will discuss the options and alternatives in great detail, providing you with all the information you need to make an informed decision about a brow lift or forehead lift procedure. The site of the incisions will also be discussed prior to your surgery; they’re typically made in inconspicuous places such as at or behind the hairline.
Once you have booked your brow lift or forehead lift surgery, Dr. Fazilat’s office will coordinate the location and time of your brow lift or forehead lift surgery. You will receive a pre-operative appointment, which is typically two weeks before your surgery. During this appointment, you will be given instructions for your surgery, as well as any medical request forms for necessary blood work or related medical tests. Dr. Fazilat will also take any pre-operative photos and review your planned procedure(s), so you can ask any final questions. Our office will contact you by phone or by email to review your instructions and your health history.
The SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery difference
Brow lift or forehead lift surgery is a common procedure that Dr. Fazilat performs in his practice. Typically, operations are performed as an outpatient procedure under general or local anesthesia with a certified anesthesiologist; surgical times are approximately 2 hours.
There are two techniques used to perform this surgery: traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic). During the surgery, Dr. Fazilat will elevate the skin above your eyes to smooth your forehead, elevate your eyebrows, and diminish your frown lines. Drainage tubes may be placed at the incision site to collect excess blood or fluid for 1 to 2 days after surgery.
For the traditional brow lift or forehead lift surgery, Dr. Fazilat will make a coronal (headphone-shaped) incision behind your hairline, stretching between your ears and across the top of your forehead. If you have thinning hair, the incision may be placed further back or along the skull bone joints to minimize visibility. Then, your forehead skin will be lifted, the tissue will be removed, muscles will be adjusted, and your eyebrows may be lifted. Excess skin will be trimmed and the incision will be closed with stitches or clips. The site will be washed, and sutures will be protected with gauze or bandages.
For the endoscopic brow lift or forehead lift surgery, Dr. Fazilat will make three to five short incisions behind your hairline. The endoscope will be placed in one incision so he can see beneath your skin without having to make a larger incision. Dr. Fazilat will then lift your skin and adjusts your muscles through the other incisions.
Some of Dr. Fazilat’s patients also have their brow lift or forehead lift surgery combined with other procedures, such as a face lift / neck lift, eyelid surgery, or chin liposuction to give your entire face a younger, more energetic appearance.
Recovering from a brow lift / forehead lift at SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery
After a brow lift or forehead lift, patients are encouraged to walk the evening of the surgery to prevent possible blood clots. Any drainage tubes will be taken out the next day, and your hair will be carefully washed. If surgical clips were used to hold the incisions closed, they would be removed one week after the brow lift or forehead lift along with your stitches.
Brow lift or forehead lift patients can typically return to work within 2 to 3 days. The majority of swelling and bruising will dissipate by the end of the first week, though strenuous activity should be avoided for 1week. Patients should also have an adult stay with them for 24 hours following the surgery to monitor their recovery. Also, scars from a brow lift or forehead lift incisions begin to fade in a few months, but camouflage cosmetics can be used to minimize the effects of bruising.
Dr. Fazilat will schedule a follow-up post-recovery office visit in Morgan Hill or Mountain View, California to discuss your progress.
