A rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, nose surgery, nose reshaping, or nasal surgery is a common cosmetic surgery procedure performed by Dr. Shahin Fazilat. This surgery can reshape, reduce, or augment your nose, remove a hump, narrow your nostril width, change the angle between your nose and mouth, or shape the tip or bridge of your nose. Rhinoplasty or nose job surgery can also be performed to fix breathing problems, a congenital disability, or to correct an injury.
Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is most effective for patients who want to correct your:
- Nose size, in relation to the other facial structures
- Nose width, typically at the bridge
- Nose profile, with visible humps or depressions on the bridge
- Nasal tip that is large or bulbous, drooping, or too upturned
- Nostrils that are large, wide, or upturned
- Crooked nose because of nasal asymmetry or a deviated septum
Our approach to rhinoplasty
During your initial rhinoplasty or nose job surgery consultation with Dr. Fazilat, he will discuss the options and alternatives in great detail, providing you with all the information you need to make an informed decision about this procedure, including complete facial analysis and an intranasal exam. Depending on the specific nasal deformity, a computer-generated rendition of the final results after the surgery can be viewed and obtained.
Rhinoplasty or nose surgery can be “open” or “closed.” An open rhinoplasty separates the skin of your nose from the underlying framework and offers excellent exposure to allow for precise sculpting and shaping during nose job surgery. Meanwhile, a closed rhinoplasty is performed through multiple incisions inside the nostrils and can be used for very limited nose job operations.
The SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery difference
Once you have booked your rhinoplasty or nose surgery, Dr. Fazilat’s office will coordinate the location and time of your rhinoplasty or nose surgery. You will receive a pre-operative appointment, which is typically two weeks before your surgery. During this appointment, you will be given instructions for your surgery, as well as any medical request forms for necessary blood work or related medical tests. Dr. Fazilat will also take any pre-operative photos and review your planned procedure(s), so you can ask any final questions. Our office will contact you by phone or by email to review your instructions and your health history.
After your pre-operative appointment, if you have any questions regarding your instructions, you can contact our office by phone or email us at any time.
Typically, rhinoplasty or nose job surgery is performed as an out-patient procedure under general or local anesthesia with a certified anesthesiologist; surgical times are typically 2 – 3 hours.
The rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is a cosmetic procedure to reshape, reduce or augment your nose, as well as to fix possible breathing problems, congenital disabilities, or to correct an injury.
Some of Dr. Fazilat’s patients also have their rhinoplasty or nose job surgery combined with other procedures, such as a face lift / neck lift, chin liposuction, a brow lift / forehead lift, or BOTOX/Dysport treatments and other fillers to complement your face’s features further.
Recovering from rhinoplasty at SF | Bay Area Plastic Surgery
After rhinoplasty or nose surgery, patients are encouraged to walk that evening to prevent possible blood clots. Most patients typically experience puffiness, nose ache or a dull headache or a short time after surgery, as well as some swelling, bruising, bleeding, or stuffiness. This will all dissipate within 2 days with rhinoplasty or nose job surgery patients typically returning to work within 5 work days, though strenuous activity should be avoided for 1 week. Patients should also have an adult stay with them for 24 hours following the surgery to monitor their recovery.
Dr. Fazilat will schedule a follow-up post-recovery office visit in Mountain View or Morgan Hill to discuss your progress.
